* Our field Trips are 1.5 hours long. We do not run field trips in the rain, temperatures at/below 50 degrees, and if there is a heat advisory. We’ll always try to reschedule if that’s the case. *
K – 2nd Grade:
Treasure the Past
On this exciting field trip, we’ll greet your students across from Jackson Square and try to determine where we are and why a city was built here! Students will activate prior knowledge about the climate, landforms, and waterways and then explore how – and why- humans adapted to- and modified- the waterways. They’ll encounter something left behind that will guide them on their adventure- ending with a sweet treasure! The field trip is interactive, educational, silly- with a bit of dress up and reenacting the past.
3rd – 5th Grade: A Time to Remember
Students will learn about who lived here, why they lived here and how they impacted our culture, our land and our laws. The beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the debate over slavery, the growth of America will all be explored through the events and lifestyle of 19th century New Orleans.
4th – 5th Grade: Ancient Empires
Louisiana just changed the social studies standards!! Don’t worry. We are here to support this new venture. On our uptown Ancient Empires field trip, students will explore Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome- noticing their influence on architecture, food, government- and yes, even Mardi Gras! (And Fornite….) This field trip will teach kids who, what, where, when, and why is this important today?? Whether we’re having our own breakdancing competition like the Olympics 2024 or dining on bread and olives (as Juvenal suggested would calm the masses), we’re staying true to history and making it fun for kids!
Middle School: A Moment in Time
Just as Middle School is a transitional time in a child’s life, the 19th century saw much change in our city and beyond. This field trip focuses on these changes: what happened, why it happened and how it impacted life for New Orleanians. By focusing on our city, we’re able to view our country’s history on a more personal level.
Students will learn about controversial characters from our past, debate the pros, cons and contradictions in our country’s development and compare the changes in technology back then to the rapid changes happening today.
This interactive, hands on field trip invites students to think critically about the past while introducing them to gross and bizarre artifacts, images and anecdotes from the past. They won’t want to miss this moment in time!
